Causal Interfaces
نویسنده
چکیده
The interaction of two binary variables, assumed to be empirical observations, has three degrees of freedom when expressed as a matrix of frequencies. Usually, the size of causal influence of one variable on the other is calculated as a single value, as increase in recovery rate for a medical treatment, for example. We examine what is lost in this simplification, and propose using two interface constants to represent positive and negative implications separately. Given certain assumptions about noncausal outcomes, the set of resulting epistemologies is a continuum. We derive a variety of particular measures and contrast them with the one-dimensional index.

Emotional Usability of Customer Interfaces
Emotions play a major role in the social interaction process with electronic commerce systems. This paper describes our attempts to design customer interfaces that can induce target emotions for cyber banking systems. Four experiments were conducted to identify the important emotive factors and design factors, and to establish and verify causal relations between the factors. Results indicate th...

Lack of trust is one of the key bottle necks in e-commerce development. Nowadays many advanced technologies are trying to address the trust issues in e-commerce. One among them suggests using suitable user interfaces. This paper investigates the functionality and capabilities of 3D graphical user interfaces in regard to trust building in the customers of next generation of B2C e-commerce websit...
متن کاملSupport for Internet-Based Commonsense Processing - Causal Knowledge Discovery Using Japanese "If" Forms
This paper introduces our method for causal knowledge retrieval from the Internet resources, its results and evaluation of using it in utterance creation process. Our system automatically retrieves commonsensical knowledge from the Web resources by using simple web-mining and information extraction techniques. For retrieving causal knowledge the system uses three of specific several Japanese “i...
متن کاملCausal influence of gamma oscillations on the sensorimotor rhythm
Gamma oscillations of the electromagnetic field of the brain are known to be involved in a variety of cognitive processes, and are believed to be fundamental for information processing within the brain. While gamma oscillations have been shown to be correlated with brain rhythms at different frequencies, to date no empirical evidence has been presented that supports a causal influence of gamma ...
متن کاملImproving human understanding and design of complex multi-level systems with animation and parametric relationship supports
Complex systems are challenging to design, particularly when they contain multi-level organizations with non-obvious relationships among design components. Here, we investigate engineering students’ capacity to search for optimal nanoscale biosystem designs with stochastic component and system behaviors. The study aims to characterize information types that facilitate human learning and improve...
متن کاملBreakdown of the Debye polarization ansatz at protein-water interfaces.
The topographical and physico-chemical complexity of protein-water interfaces scales down to the sub-nanoscale range. At this level of confinement, we demonstrate that the dielectric structure of interfacial water entails a breakdown of the Debye ansatz that postulates the alignment of polarization with the protein electrostatic field. The tendencies to promote anomalous polarization are determ...
